I pull off the cover and plug mine in on Saturday then clean, cover and unplug on Sunday. I live in CA so lightning storms are rare. I do it cause it's part of the ritual each weekend.
I have mine plugged into a UPS/surge protector. It helps with power flickers on long cooks.

We recommend you always unplug your grill when not using it. Not sure if electrical storms would hurt anything, never had a report of it happening. Either way we would get you up and running again regardless of how it happens
