O.T. Zebra Finches - Fourth Generation

I thought some of you might enjoy this.

We've raised zebra finches for several years now and we were down to the last finch of our third generation, so we thought we'd get him a little mate for Christmas.

A little over two weeks ago they started laying their first brood. They lay one egg per day, this brood totaled four eggs in all. Then they start sitting on them to incubate.


Early this morning the first egg hatched. It was difficult getting a picture, but you can see the chick (looks like a little pink alien) laying in between the other three eggs.


Here's the proud poppa. He's a third generation finch; we had his grandparents.


And here's Momma hen keeping her new baby and the other eggs warm. They take turns sitting.

Cool Cliff! Do you know a lot about finches? I think some type of finch created a nest on my parents front porch in a potted plant. Its an odd looking nest but I'll take pics to see if you know what type they are.
