An amazing time. We finished the night with Andy, Brad, Jody and I celebrating with dinner and a little casino action. All four of us came home on top from the black jack table when the night was over. It was a Big Poppa Smokers weekend. Seems everything was going our way. Let's do this again.

You and your group have an open invitation to cook with me anytime next year. As a matter of fact, I may be making a sous chef request at some point.

What a GREAT weekend. THIS is why we do what we do. Plain and simple. Got to mess around on Thurs. and Friday, doing some practice cooking on the MAK and Meadow Creek (Brisket Machine). Jody and Brad made me feel right at home on Thursday night, and we had a blast Friday. These guys have the bug - I am expecting to that brisket stay in the top 5!! Then to watch Sterling come in and orchestrate the amazing dinner that you saw the preview thread for.... it was above and beyond what I had expected.

The comp cook went off with out a hitch. Everyone turned out some excellent product, and the atmosphere was as if we had been cooking together for years. The kitchen had a great vibe, everyone, was in their groove - and the comp was a blast.

The highlight of the afternoon for me though, was taking that brisket walk. Brad cooked a brisket that was on par with the best I've eaten. What a great feeling. It's about 12:30 pm on comp night, and and I am still jazzed. Normally I would be passed out for 2-3 hrs by now. Still sifting through it all in my head. But just have to thank these guys again for making me part of the bbq family for the weekend. Hopefully Joe will let us sneak back out again, after the baby is here :)

Now just wait until they are ready to get out of the 122 degree heat and come to a cooler place in KS :) Too many other stories to try to add in this post... but these guys are welcome anyplace I'm at.

The pictures frame it up right. Looking forward to the next chapter in the saga. :)

I think this weekend was a great example of the team concept that BBQ gives you a chance to experience. We had some of the teams that really didnt like Todd and Andy being there. One of the bigger teams coughed Ringer a few times. They dont get it. I think they missed the point. It wasnt world peace it was 5 guys having fun cooking and laughing and learning. (the learning part we may have come out on top of)

I was so happy that it felt like we had cooked together a bunch of times and that we also seemed as we had been friends for a long time. At the dinner Friday one of my good friends asked when I met Andy and Todd...I said "officially, two hours ago." These are my internet buddies and BBQ stars.

This could have been a disaster on many levels....It was a big leap of faith for Andy and Todd. But in the end no animals were harmed except for some stray wagyu and the usual KCBS Victims

Great report! Love to see how BBQ brings folks together and kicks down the barriers that would inhibit friendships.
2nd runner up is an awesome achievement in that field of competitors!! Congrats!

Looks like an awesome time!..I really wish we could have been there and would have loved to meet Todd and Andy..Todd part of our sucess this year has come from your products..3 1st place briskets and 1st through 5th in pork..thanks for such awesome products!!..Sterling you and your whole crew are FIRST class people!..just like you said some people must miss the whole point to this crazy comp stuff..so what if you guys had two of the best with you..if you weren't a quality person I'm sure they would have not come out to cook with you..it's that saying haters always hate..left coast was rooting for guys all the way..again great job!
