OK, this is a bit gratuitous and definitely not for the squeamish, but I was swapping in my new full grease pan this morning and decided to take a picture of my MAK with all the accessories (thanks to BPS!). I think the only thing I'm missing is the smoker box...

That's not kitty litter in those containers, btw. :D Also, I threw a couple grommets on my cover as the wind here was off the charts last week -- luckily I had bungee'd the main part or the cover would be in Kansas by now. Got snow in my controller box, but no harm done, and problem now solved.

Nice rig!! I'd put something down to protect the deck from drips/splashes/fumbles etc.....

I agree. I do have something under my Weber which is just off to the left. I should probably go ahead and move it since the MAK is kinda taking over... On the other hand, the deck is now 17 years old and I've stopped caring. It needs an overhaul!

Did you replace the grease pan? I just got the Mak 2 Star myself and was wondering if you preferred that versus the one that has covers.

I did buy the full grease pan and I use them both. In the picture above, the full grease pan is installed.

For long slow cooks or smoking, I use the full pan and cover the top with foil. When I use the griddle or searing grate (or just for grilling in general) I use the flame zone pan and remove covers as needed. You can get by just fine without the full pan, of course. It's just easier to keep clean, in my opinion.

You are going to absolutely love your 2 Star. It's one of the best purchases I have ever made.

Not a bad idea. I have had mine for less than a week so I haven't had to clean it yet :). I am definitely wanting to get the full upper grill grate and the wi-fi module, and have been looking at the other accessories. I was wanting to get your opinion on the ones that you own. I see the front shelf, grill grate, and the griddle in the photo.

I recommend two 1/2 upper grates instead of the full upper grate. Gives you more flexibility. I have used one 1/2 upper grate and the flame zone at the same time and it's easier to maneuver food around than with both 1/2 upper grates installed.

I can't imagine being without the front shelf. I use it all the time, every cook. Plus it's got that nice towel holder!

I have used the MAK griddle a lot, too. To date I have done bacon, eggs, hash browns, and seared sesame-crusted ahi on it and it works perfectly. You could probably do this with a flat griddle on top of the bottom rack, but I tend to think having the MAK griddle sitting right on top of the flame zone provides you with a much hotter griddle.

Same comments for the grill grate, it's made specifically for use with the MAK flame zone and it gets HOT. It definitely makes better grill marks than the normal grate.

I guess I'm saying that if you think you will use all of this stuff and you can afford it, buy them all! It does look like the prices on all the accessories has gone up significantly since I bought mine in December, but they are very well thought out and engineered to last. If I had to do it again, I would do the same thing.

Enjoy!
Paul

I will probably take your advice on two 1/2 grates (didn't even think about that). I am surprised at the price of the accessories, but I know they are well made and the grill itself will last a long time. Knowing myself, I will probably end up getting them all eventually.

Hey Paul, thanks for posting all of the "stuff" for a MAK. I am thinking of getting the front shelf - would use it a lot! However, any problems with the cover going over it? With the wind we have, the cover is hard enough to get on as is!

The normal cover fits fine. Here's a pic of the cover on with front shelf installed. I link a couple bungees over the top (got the idea on this forum), and a couple on the bottom using the grommets I installed. The top bungees keep the cover from blowing off and the bottom bungees keep the snow out of my controller box. The Colorado north wind comes from the left, but it's not an issue now...
