What is the difference between steaks and chops?

From a high level glance it would appear the difference is species. Steaks come from beef and bison while those same cuts are referred to as chops from pork and lamb. Is there more to it?
Is it like BBQ with the difference in steaks and chops being regional?

From what I've read they are pretty much the same thing..a portion of meat cut from the rib section is a steak or chop depending on the animal.

We do get Pork steaks from time to time which are usually cut from the butt end of a shoulder, and you can also buy Ham Steaks. Otherwise it does seem to be a species thing. Even with the tenderloin muscle when cut into slices; from a pig they're called tenderloin Chops, from a cow they're called Fillet Mignon steaks.

He he... A cow overhears two pigs talking and one of them says, "That guy's always busting my chops." Then the pig says to the cow, "You wouldn't understand; its a Pig thing."

Pork steaks are very common around here. I like 'em cut about 1.5" thick, and slow cooked!

Now you've got me thinking. It's been a while since I've done any of those....
