What are the signs of thermocouple failure?

My 2 star worked fine Tuesday for ABT's and reverse seared Tri-Tip, today I fired it up set for high and got an error message. (sorry can't remember what the message said) dumped the pellets to check auger (OK), unplugged and restarted on smoke. Pellets ignited, auger was fine, fan was fine but temp was reading 30 degrees.

Luckily manual mode will save my behind today since friends are coming over. Do I have a bad thermocouple?

Check the connection to the Pellet Boss, if that looks good then yes I would say something is wrong with the TC.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, the connection with the pellet boss was slightly loose. All is working well now, getting ready to throw on some ribs.

Perfect! You are one of the few that have ever used the manual mode, glad it helped you out as designed
