Yoder YS640 starting to disappoint me...

I replaced my Traeger Texas Grill with a Yoder YS640, thinking it was an upgrade. While the construction of the Yoder is far superior and it looks way cooler, it is starting to disappoint me during cookouts. It doesn't put as much smoke flavor into the meat as I would like, which is ok, I have an Amaz N Tube Smoker, however I can't keep the tube smoker going in the Yoder, I have moved it around everywhere but it seem to just keep snuffing out on me. I know how to light the tube smoker and used it many times on the Traeger but it just doesn't seem to want to cooperate on the Yoder. At this point I am kind of regretting upgrading at this point. I am not sure what my next move is. The Traeger would produce amazing food with the tube smoker, and I figured the Yoder would do even better. One thing I thought I liked on the Yoder better was the position of the fire pot, but I am beginning to think the center fire pot on the Traeger is better, it produced a better air and thus smoke flow through the grill.

Strange?? We use our tube in the Yoder all the time and never have had a problem with it going out. Is your top vent all the way open?

Top vent? The YS640 only has the chimney stack and no longer has any device to throttle it down.

What update are you running, you may need the latest update, which I think was at least U23. There was also fan issues. Give them a call.

Sorry - we have the older style that you can still close the vent on the top.

What wood flavor of pellets are you having a problem keeping lit in the Yoder?

Not sure what the issue is....
Every smoker has a learning curve and I'm sure the Yoder has some getting used to.

How long ago did you get it?

I have the Yoder about a month and a half now, bought straight from Yoder. How am I suppose to tell what update I am running, I would think it is up to date since I bought it from them? I am using BBQer's Delight Apple pellets.

You should really e-mail Don Cary at [email protected] He's really good for information and he e-mails at all hours it seems. It really doesn't sound like the problem you are experiencing is a problem with your smoker..... Not to be rude or anything but it sounds more like an operator error issue...... Please give Don an e-mail if you really think it's your smoker him and his team would be the best to help you....

When you start the Yoder the firmware that is in your Yoder will be on the the display panel and read "U23" or what ever was installed before you purchased it.

I am still curious what wood flavor of pellets are you having a problem keeping lit in your Yoder?
