Smoked chicken wings with different rubs and sauces are always a hit. A favorite at our house is take steamed artichokes, halve them clean them out and the hit them with some garlic EVOO and Desert Gold and grill. Serve them with garlic butter and mayo and watch it disappear.

Wings are generally pretty good but it really depends on the size of the crowd and the length of time the gathering is supposed to last. For me when it comes to app's and crowds there has to be a tradeoff. The larger the crowd the less labor intensive the food I'm gonna serve.

While I don't cater or do competitions I am usually one of the first ones invited to a gathering lol.

You would be surprised what things are out there that are super simple but folks go nuts over when smoked or grilled.

These are good on a grill.

1 lb. bulk pork sausage
1 lb. Velveeta, cut into 1 inch cubes
2 tbsp. catsup
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
2 (8 oz.) loaves party rye bread

Brown sausage in a heavy skillet; drain. Melt cheese over low heat, stirring frequently. Add sausage, catsup and next 3 ingredients; mix well. Spread about 2 teaspoons of mixture on each bread slice and bake on ungreased baking sheet at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.
To freeze, place individually on baking sheets. When frozen, place in freezer bag. Take out as wanted and bake unthawed at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Yields: approximately 5 dozen appetizers.

Try some MOINKS (meatballs wrapped with bacon) and TOINKS (Tator Tots wrapped with bacon). Easy to do, and always a big hit. I made 100 MOINKS for a Christmas party and they never made it to the serving table. I was accosted between the MAK and the table. BBQ'd shrimp are also good. They made it to the table, but just barely. It's amazing what people will do afdter a few drinks.
