How far have you come as a cook?

Since I am new at this, I haven't come very far. I have only done a few cooks, and I have a lot to learn about the barbecue standards like pulled pork, brisket, etc. The cool thing for me now is finally having a grill to do some of things I have wanted to cook for a long time--things I have faked on little electric grills in my apartment. Now, they're really grilled! Now they taste the way they're supposed to! Actually, I am glad that I don't know much about those BBQ standards. So, that way, I can bring something new to the conversation. Hopefully, I can bring some Filipino flair to it. I am excited about that possibility!

I've been thinking about this since BP started the thread...

I've only had my MAK since april and in those 5 months I have learned many things.
Too many to post here but first and foremost is, it's easier to cook complicated dishes because the pellet cooker is such of a do it all kind of cooker. You can grill, bake, slow cook and smoke all on one out door cooker. Also cooking outside is more fun! 5 months ago I never thought about baking breads or cakes, too much work! I thought. All I was cooking before I got my MAK was steaks, chops, ect on my gasser and smoking briskets, chickens, ribs ect in my Bradley Smoker.

Iv'e always enjoyed cooking, since I was 16 I wanted to be a chef. That was way before being a chef was cool and the only cooking show on TV was Julia Childs ;)
My path in life didnt lead down that road but owning my pellet cooker has steered me back in that direction.

This past week I taught myself on how to bake bread. I bought a mixer and three tries later I finally made some really good bread! Baked in the MAK!
Owning my MAK and watching and learning from the crowd here has opened my eyes to another dimension in food preperation that I had zero confidence in being able to do. Now I know different and I look for recipes to try that are not easy but challenging.

When I first joined here all I posted was ribs, chicken, brisket pretty much the easy stuff. Now I'm posting chicken chowder in bread bowls that I baked in my MAK, Lime jello cake baked in the MAK, lamb chops and who knows whats going to be next

Everyone here inspires me to be better, learn more and impress. To me being a good cook or back yard chef is great! But watching the ones I cook for smile when they taste my food is what does it for me.

I have come a long way by owning my pellet cooker. :)

Geez, where do I start. Got my GMG in March and have used it more in the last 6 months than I did my gasser in the last two years.
I've done the usual ribs, chicken, steak but I've also done Hog Apple Baked Beans, a Blueberry crumble, smoked Jerky, SW Stuffed peppers and more.

I find myself looking at cookbooks for something I can make in the pellet grill and modify to our tastes. So far so good!

The Supreme Commander says all is good and looks forward to the wekend when I do almost all the cooking. Will retire the first of the year and she says she's looking forward to it (gee, can't imagine why :)), then again so am I.
