It's been a very busy month with the high school & middle school bands, and we got a bit of a surprise last Thursday, during the high school band's Spring concert and awards ceremony.
Our son was awarded the "John Philip Sousa Band Award" for superior musicianship, dependability, loyalty, and cooperation. This is the highest award that any high school musician can be awarded. Only one student per school per year may be given this award. He will be listed in the national registry for this award.
As the band director talked about the person who won this award, and why he won it, I realized she was talking about my son and I think one of the students sitting nearby must have been chopping some onions.
Then this past Monday evening at the high school's award ceremony, a representative from the Marines presented him with the "U.S Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence."
Needless to say, we are extremely proud of his achievements!
