LOL, that was my first thought, I have other ideas though. Susan has one too and I really like the sounds of it.

I'm off to the orchard to see if they have any. I have already checked my farm delivery place and they only have sugar pumpkins, I have a couple of those on my counter already

I was thinking the other day that it was almost time for my Thanksgiving thread, I have already made smoky, roasted turkey stock.

I am in produce, on the supply side though, and we don't do pumpkins that is uncharted territory.

I do know that all pumpkins are edible, but avoid the ones you find at craft stores or non food outlets, these are intended for decoration and have probably been waxed with a lacquer type finish which may or may not be food grade. Also they might be dehydrated as they have not been stored properly.

My local supermarket has tons of different pumpkins this time of year. Some varieties have a soft skin that is edible and others have a hard skin which never softens (these can be used for soup bowls etc.)

I'll ask some of our specialty buyers if they have any insight on the different varieties and where to get them.

I talked with the owner of the apple orchard on Saturday. He thought it was a good question and is going to find the answer. We did talk about how anything he had there (he buys his pumpkins from a local farm) would be edible. We discussed how if they were grown to be ornamental that they may not have alot of flavor. I bought a couple little ones - they are more round than the ones Carter did - but then it snowed, I'm not sure when I'll have time to play with them.
