I am looking to get a remote bbq thermometer and have got two candidates:
1. Maverick ET732
2. iGrill by Apple
Can anyone give me feedback on remote thermometers, and especially these two?
Any help will be appreciated.
no mossymo lets be patient also the igrill vs the 732 has not been bourght up specifically...
The Igrill is not made by apple. It is a third party company that designs and markets products...this one has apples blessings.
I was interested in it and got one of the early ones and the bluetooth kept dropping out and the probe was of very low quality.
Maverick is a hit and miss company...they design stuff in new jersey and have it made in China...The 732 is good...we use them but even with the extended heat range...you can expect probles to fail....it is the achilles heel of these units.
So far our Maverick 732, has performed very well and we're very happy with it.
We've only lost connection once, but suspect weak batteries were the culprit. The ET 732 has two probes allowing you to monitor either two different meats, or one meat plus the pit temp. Care should be taken when placing the probe & closing the lid so you don't pinch, kink or cut into the wire.
One more thing to watch for; BE CAREFUL who you order from! A lot of places are listing what looks like a better price, but NOT listing it's the older ET73 model.
BPS has the best overall price, including shipping and you'll get what you pay for.
i have 2 mavericks 732's. there are right. i love my oregon scientific. it talks to me in 6 different languages. i think the lady is speaking german to me. rare = english, med rare = doush. its fun. oh, and it works good too. fun though.
I have the OS also Spark, the only things I don't like about it is it only tells me the temps at the receiver end and not also at the transmitter end like the Maverick does and the OS is a single probe unit versus two probes with the Mav.
bonkhead, you will love the dual probe, long range, report the temps at both ends Maverick ET732. I own 2 ET73's which is the previous version of the 732. Absolutly love them. With a Mav 732 and a Thermapen, you'll have temp monitoring covered!
ya, but in german. i only know a few words but i am well on my way to learning german. i think its german. might be dutch. i just like the sound of her voice.
I am not real into the wireless stuff. I just got the Thermoworks TW8060 Pro BBQ kit and it is awesome. They are coming out with an app for Android soon. It is expensive but you get what you pay for on items like this.
gosh rsb I bought a whole bunch of those for the comp set up and they didnt match the temps of the thermapens...I was so bummed let me now if they have fixed it....they are beautiful k probes
Poppa, The grate temp matched my smoker exactly and the internal probe matched my thermapen. I also had a 732 next to it and was testing the same things and the 732 was 18 degrees off on grate temp and 09 off on internal.
I will have to try the Thermoworks TW8060. I have the thermopen and love it. I also have the 732 and have the same experience as rsp076 (or actually worse). Thanks for the info.
Used an Igrill last night for a 9 hour brisket cook. I only had the meat probe, wish I had the grate probe (they'll be in next week). Hooked up to my Ipad no prob, had one disconnet, but it connected back up fine. Was within a couple of degrees of my MAK probe. The app is really neat, and simple to use. The cooking graph is sweet. Could only download a pdf file. The big temp drop was when I foiled my brisket. Not too bad for a $79.00 thermo, the grill grate probe is another $20 I think. Toys, Toys, Toys.
