Help, i do a lot of bbq/smoking/grilling (4 gas & 3 charcoal cookers ) and thinking about buying one because i like the concept of the pellet smoker but how do you increase or decrease the amount of smoke you want with out changing the heat setting ? Like when i smoke fish i increase the wood and close the dampers more with out increasing the temp. How much pellet does it burn per hour ? Traeger or GMG ?

Welcome to PelletSmoking!

Only way I know to increase the amount of smoke without changing the temp is to add a smoke generator like a smoke daddy or amazin smoker or similar. No way to decrease the smoke on a pellet cooker without changing the temp, that I know of, but then I've never heard anyone want to decrease the amount of smoke their pellet cooker kicks out!

Pellet consumption fluctuates with cooker temp setting, cooker insulation, ambient temp, wind etc. It varies from cooker to cooker and from what part of the nation you live in.

Higgy2,
Welcome from North Carolina. I have a MAK 2 Star and I can "cold smoke" fish without adding a Smoke Daddy. I simply use the lowest setting on the MAK (the smoke setting) and smoke away. I have done fish, cheese, Chex Mix, and brine soaked raw peanuts. I'm also getting ready to smoke some hot sauce soaked raw peanuts (in the shells) this weekend. The MAK 2 Star is a bit more expensive, but the MAK 1 Star puts out a lot of smoke. You can always add a loaf pan filled with ice to keep the temps down for some serious smoking.
