What knife to buy for briskets

BP (or anyone with more knife knowledge than me), are there any issues with using an electric sharpener with the Meridian Elite knives? I am interested in one or two good knives but I have never been able to get a decent edge sharpening by hand. I use one of the electric models with three different discs for pocket knives and it works well for that application. I usually only need the two finer discs to get a good edge on my pocket knife.
I don't want to spend a small fortune on a knife and ruin the factory edge the first time I sharpen it

oooooh I dont recommend electric knife sharpeners...get the little pull through messermeister before going electric

Or I will sharpen it on the apex and when you get it back you will want one.
