What pellet smoker do you have and why did you decide on that brand/model?

Just curious to see some of your answers, there are quite a few brands and styles out there these days.

What smoker did you choose and why?

I bought a Yoder YS640, I went to a local store, (since closed) that carried Mak, Yoder, Egg, Memphis...

I was tied between the Mak 2 star and Yoder and the construction of heavier materials and the fact that the guy who owned the store cooked every weekend for the customers on the Yoder sold me. It's been a great tool, but kind of still think from time to time of getting a Mak for some easier versatility. But I'll be just fine with the Yoder for as long as I can imagine.

We have MAK grills. Like a lot of MAK owners we owned another brand first. Since owning our MAK grills no regrets at all..

i own a mak....when comparing all of the different cookers and the features the Mak became a no brainer to me

Back in 2003 I was visiting one of our local gun shops. The owner was one of these guys that would sell anything if he could make money doing it. He showed me his latest endeavor, a trailer mounted Traeger pellet smoker. He also had some chicken coming off the grill just as I got there. I tried the chicken, and came back a couple days later for some beef. I was sold. He told me he would knock $200 off the retail price if I bought one that week. I bought a #75 Traeger, and the following day my son bought a smaller model. We started cooking everything that was either beef, pork, or chicken and comparing notes. I collect cook books and recipes also, and have about 20 different books on smoking, grilling, and BBQing in general. I enjoy cooking and keep records of everything I do on the Traeger, so I can duplicate my efforts at a future date. That has helped me learn what works and what doesn't work. My wife raves about my cooking, but sometimes I think she does that just so I will keep doing it. I no longer just grill/smoke meat, I've done corn, potatoes, and other veggies. Presently I'm trying to figure out a way to make a cool smoker using the smoke that comes out the chimney of the Traeger, my smoker makes a huge amount of smoke and I hate seeing it go to waste if there was a way I could use it.
