2 star and one star are basically the same forsmoking and grilling. 2 star is bigger with some added features but one star has the same pellet boss controller. Go mak you will never regret it and delivered to the michigan address for 200 less then your 1500 budget. You van make great vegetables on the mak.

if you are looking at chinese you should also consider the green mountain. They have nice product. I am biased and love MAKs and compete on the one star week in and week out.

If your looking for the best under a grand GMG gets my vote. Is a one star worth nearly twice as much? Most definitely yes.

I am curious as to what makes a product that costs twice as much is worth it. What can it do that is different or superior to the less expensive one?
I ask this, not as a challenge, but as a point of interest.

Actual craftsmanship in the construction, the overall fit and finish. Durability and dependability are far superior as one might and would expect in a grill of this price. I've felt and this is
my own opinion but I have had the opportunity to use many different cookers, that the meats I cook that come off the MAK are significantly better.

Pellet grills use a fan for the air draft. The fan on the Mak grills are variable speed. When you are cooking at lower temps the fan slows down and which allows the pellets to burn slower and produce more smoke. Many of the less expensive grills have fans that operate at one speed only regardless of the temp you are cooking at. On a Mak this is all controlled by the pellet boss, many grill manufactures use the same controller. It understandable how they might and do produce very similar results. Mak Grills are a lot more than just a well made grill, they are a product of well thought out, intelligent design.
