Yoder Rust

I have a yoder and am getting a ton of rust on the heat deflector. I usually cover it with tinfoil when I do a smoke. Could this be the problem. I do cover it after every use and it is under a roof. But I know there is still humidity that gets in. I use it at least once a month but only for low and slow smokes. Any tips would helpful, Thanks.

I noticed the same thing with mine, I stopped using the foil and just scrape it off when vacuuming out the ash. It isn't quite as pretty, but it sure stopped the rusting on the top. About once a year I hit it with an oven cleaner if there's stubborn bits that I can't get off.

The foil is trapping the moisture. Don not use it just scrap it once in awhile, the char will also protect it from rust. The bottom side will still rust

royalt, are you talking about the heat deflector or the grease pan? In a MAK there's a heat deflector that sits under the grease pan and takes on the full brunt of the firepot deflecting some of the heat away from the middle portion of the grease pan.
The grease pan is what I cover with foil. Just want to get an accurate idea of what you need help with.

In a Yoder, the grease pan is the deflector. It is under the grates and angled towards the grease drain. There is nothing between the firepot and the deflector.

I just chose to let it season like a cast iron pan which keeps the rust off of the top. I stopped bothering with the foil.

As Jim said, there really isn't a way to stop the rust on the bottom as it gets direct flame from the pot. It is however 10ga and should last a really long time.
