It adds to your MAK a little more with the Grilling part. Think Steaks, Burgers, Grill Veggies. It would have little use at lower temps. We do have one for our MAK.

I struggled with the price at first too, because we don't grill nearly as often as we indirect cook/smoke/BBQ. But after having and used it, I must say for the times when we do want to grill I love it and would not hesitate to recommend it.

Two things:

1) Like any other grill you have to let it pre-heat really well, to heat the metal up so it can sustain hot temps even when opening the lid.

2) Do NOT get rid of your blank drip pan. The blank pan is better for indirect cooking (IMHO) and swapping out the two drip pans literally takes about 30 seconds.
