Simple Pleasures

For anyone that has hung around this site for any period of time they realize quickly that there is some pretty epic cooking going on here. Some is done by seasoned vets, and some is done by so called newbies.

While this amazing food is good enough to make the average Foodie blush, I'm thinking about the great stuff that gives the average foodie nightmares and has them waking up in a cold sweat whispering "Mommy?".

Thats right the good old simple pleasure stuff. You know what I'm talking about- Chili dogs, Spam, Fatties, pulled pork on wonder bread, bacon wrapped whatever, cheeseburgers no lettuce, you get the drift.

Let's hear it for the simple pleasures on or off the grill!

I'll kick it off- for me a good dog fresh off the grill smothered in chili, cheese, onions, and chased with a cold beer is pretty tough to beat.

How about you? What's that simple pleasure that is just oh so good?

For me it would be brats. Hot and spicy or just beer brats it makes no difference. Charred from the grill, cheese, onion and some kind of hot sauce..killer! A ML to go with it and I'm a happy guy!

Oh yeah! My mom is from Milwaukee and my first Major League Baseball game was at Milwaukee County to see the Brewers and the Angels play. Remember my Uncle cooking up Miesfeld’s Brats on his Smokey Joe in the parking lot before the game. To quote Sparky- "Good stuff Maynard". Great day, had my first Brat and I got to see Paul Molitor, Robin Yount and Reggie Jackson play.

Gotta go with my Chicken Wings! Cooked on my wing rack at high temp to crisp them up. Toss in hot sauce and serve with blu cheese dressing and celery. It's hard to find a good wing out here!

The dogs, burgers, and tacos are all right up there on my list, too. I'll add one more that I enjoy because of the leftovers - MEATLOAF! I love meatloaf snadwiches, especially when I make mine with some of my ground elk meat.

Chili dogs are pretty high on my list. All manner of stuffed, wrapped, etc, jalapeños are great too.

Simple Pleasure

My simple pleasure would be a couple of pieces of pemeal bacon on the Traeger, a toasted bun, slathered in some great bbq sauce.

I have 2 go to sauces, one my butcher makes and one a friend makes. I do make my own but most times cannot be bothered LOL,

I have to echo Big Poppa's first item: Poppers (ABT's, Armadillo eggs, etc.) I just love 'em!

But for me the thing that's really hard to beat is a fresh made hot-off-the-grill smoked sausage on a bun with some spicy mustard & kraut.

meatloaf, stuffed Jalapenos and we really like crispy oven fries on the MAK... (and chicken nuggets for the toddler)

i guess cheap store bought pizza is also a great easy comfort meal.

Carter, I lived in Owatonna Minnesota and at the tender age of 14, I ran away from home, took a train called the 400 to Milwaukee, where i have tons of relatives. I got to see the 1958 Milwauke Braves in World Serious....... Trust me, Usingers made the best sausages and brats in the world..... great memories of simple but great tasting food. People in Milwaukee know how eat ;-)

It's hard to pass up meatloaf and mashed potatoes with some green beans... and what's not to like about an Angus beef hamburger cooked on a pellet grill?

Chili burgers.. Hamburger drowned in chili with fresh onions on top..

If I had a reliable source pea-meal bacon would be it..
used to be able to get it all the time near my old home in MI..

Usingers are killer brats too, had family from Sheboygan and that was the hook up on the Meisfelds. Trust me I know better than to get in the middle of a "best brat" argument between Wisconsinites!
