I love the MAK Shelf and half Shelf....But for different reasons than most of you. I love it because for ANY food other than steaks that is my cooking height. I only use the lower rate for searing now.

Think about it...its the same inches of cooking surface and it puts the food in such an even spot in the cooker....the convection air blows around the food truly like a rotisserie and you dont hafe to turn the meat...You are suspending it into the sweet spot of the cooker!

Agreed! Lately my half rack spends most its time centered in the grill, as most of my cooking is on it.

for me it because i am far sighted and i can see it better. lol. it's h#!! getting old. ;)

Yeppppp TentHunter I'm soaking up all the info and in-puts I can on the MAK grills I'm about too pull the trigger !

There's more smoke exposure up higher. Most of the time, my lower grate is not even in. Everything is cooked on the upper rack.

NO you want things with grill grates to be as close to the fire as you can....I dont sear tri tip so I put it on the shelf without the grill grates
