Just joined. Was looking up recipes for the pellet grills when this site came up so I joined. My question is, I was looking at a GMG for 950.00 but I keep reading about this Mak grill which I never heard of. Are they about the same. My boy has the Treager Tex. I just like the GMG better. Any opinion would be helpful. I only want to do this once. I am now using a weber kettle and a weber gas now. Thanks in advance.

I, too, wanted to buy only once when I started my "search" for a pellet grill. I decided to spend more money now, rather than spend money to upgrade several times. Your thought process is a good one, I believe. I ended up with the MAK 2 Star for a variety of reasons. Basically, it fit my personal cooking profile the best. It has allowed me to expand my cooking horizons, mostly due to the cold smoking side of the 2 Star. The other thing that really attracted me was the Pellet Boss. This is a really powerful tool when cooking.

Now having said all that, the GMG and the MAK 1 Star are in same relative price range, I believe. The 1 Star is built to last, and is made in the USA. You won't find a better product. Check out some of Sparky's posts using his menagerie of MAKs. Those 1 Stars really kick out the smoke. If you love ribs, Sparky's posts will get the juices flowing.

Good luck on your search.

Have to agree with what everyone said about the MAK ... hands down the better product. Checked out local dealers who carry Traeger, GMG, and MAK when I was looking to buy a pellet grill.

Once you see the MAK you won't have any doubts!

Thanks

From what I have read on the replies to my question has got me looking for a dealer on MAK. I like the GMG but Big Poppa sells GMG and cooks on a MAK, Says alot. I like to buy USA products when the products is better and you all show that support. I'll let you all know what I get. Leaning now to the MAK. Thank you all again for the replies and help.

Like you, my reasoning went a bit like this. BP cooks on a MAK. Now, so do I.

What BP says about the company is really true. I had a part that was manufactured incorrectly. I sent Bob at MAK a picture attached to an e-mail asking if the part was manufactured incorrectly. Sure enough, it was. Bob sent me a new part, and it arrived a couple days later and sooner than I expected. No muss, no fuss. BP's company for his "Day Job" is a great company with great customer service, which has helped me out a couple of times with my guitars. So, I figured if BP digs MAK and they have customer support like BP's, well...I know MAK is going to be a good company to deal with. My experience has confirmed that impression. BTW, Big Poppa Smokers' customer service is just like at BP's "Day Job." Both businesses have been fantastic about helping me out with stuff.

I can tell you that the MAK is step above the GMG. The Pellet Boss alone is worth the small differential. And I know a team that could fly in and cook on them (first time on a one star) and win a lil comp in Mesquite :) They cook, and do what you tell them to!
