Built in pellet grill for bbq island....possible????

Hope some one can help. I am looking for a pellet grill that I can put into a custom bbq island. I have seen the Memphis pro that comes in from looks to be a preassembled bbq island but i am looking for something bigger. For example the size of a Green Mountain Jim Bowie or a Traeger Texas. As I am shopping around I am wondering if I can just take the grill it self off the cart and fabricate a support system around the grill. A foreseeable issue that came to me was, problems with the air induction system not getting adequate air because it is enclosed (inside the bbq island)? Is there anything similar to the Memphis Pro with the rear hopper but in a bigger size. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

My neighbor (smokeslinger) is building his MAK 2 Star into a custom island he's building himself. He posted this on another forum but I'm certain he won't mind if I repost it here. Along with his 2 Star he's building in gas burners, a 1400F searing grate, warming drawer, steam table and dual sinks with cold and hot running water and garbage disposal! It's an outdoor chefs dream kitchen!

This has been an adventure and its not over. I used two pieces of hardibacker mostly to make up the difference i needed. I had 1/4" and needed to make up another 1/2" for the height i wanted. So, thought outloud why dont i used a piec of 1/2" under the 1/4" and my friend Tom was w me said i hv one. So, there it is the heat proof bottom i needed. I need to add an extension to the grease drain and then cut a hole in the harderbacker. I will use the 4 lower mouting holes in the bottom of the MAK to secure to hardibacker. In these securing locations i will back the hardibacker with wood to gv the screws something solid to attach to. The intake air will have a 5" duct running from a vent under the counter to supply air to the fan motor. The outake is going to have something simular that i will fab in place(havnt completly figured this out yet, maybe a lil channnel that cover the boottom and sides and then releases the smoke up into the hood?). The front will finish w a custom stainless cover leaving an opening for the controls on the pellat boss. Still working my way through this so any questions or comments will really help!

Another thingy or 2...under the MAK will be 48" stainless cabinet doors that will allow me to change pellets and grease bucket. I dont think i will need the slide access cuz i shop vac the dust out but i did make an access for it. The screws on the bottom that hold the auger chamber in place have had four holes made in the hardibacker so the MAK sit flush

Thank you!

Yeah, it seems like he ran into the same issues I was thinking about. At least I know it is somewhat do-able. I would love to see what the final product looks like. Money seems to be no object in his case...(that viking hood costs bucks!).

Thanks again.

He got a sweet deal on all those side units, including the exhaust hood, buying them as showroom pieces. I'll swing over his backyard soon and take some more pics and nudge him to jump on the forum to comment as he goes. He doesn't spend much time on a PC so we'll see how that works out. :)
If you want to see a pic of something in particular just ask.

Thanks! I would really appreciate any pictures you could take of his ventilation system to the fan and any ideas of what he decided to do about his "outake" to the hood. Thanks again.

Sorry, by ventilation system to the fan I meant the duct and vent he has running to the fan. "The intake air will have a 5" duct running from a vent under the counter to supply air to the fan motor. skeeter, he's not yet at the point where he's attached the vent to the induction fan but it looks like he's getting there. I'll take closeups when he does.

Here's some more pics I took this morning.

Smokeslinger put the vent hood farther up on the roofline to get the vent sound as far away as possible

Dang that looks awesome!
Is heat going to be an issue at the back of the grill or is he going to put something heat resistant back there?
I would love a setup like that!

Some more progress this week. More Hardibacker board went up.

skeeter, I told Smokeslinger today that you were interested in how he plans to install the ventilation for the induction fan so he just went ahead today and installed it! :) Here he's making room for the vent

He'll install a vent cover over the ducting end.
