I have a Traeger LIL TEX. I am looking to get something bigger and have been reading about diferent brands. I have read about Yoder, Mak, Green Mountain smokers. I want to get one in a few weeks. Anyone have an opinion about any I mentioned or others? Any input would be great

Definitely check out the MAK 1 Star and the new 2012 2 Star. Can't do any better than those.

I like the Mak but do not know if I want to spend that much money. Another bad part is MAK does not have a dealer anywhere near me. I spoke with MAK yesterday and they were very helpful. Another thing with the Mak is I want something bigger. I really like MAK just wish it was lower priced and Bigger

Will this be for home use? How much bigger you talking?
I have a two star and have never wished it was bigger..with an extra rack you could get at least 8 butts on a two star.

Yes this will be for at home. I am looking for something 600 inches or bigger. My budget will only allow a smoker around $1400. If the MAK was around that price I would have bought one today.

I really believe you would be very happy with a MAK One Star General. I too was concerned about space until I got mine . I bought two half racks that is a option this will allow you too double your space. I cooked a 12 pound turkey and a 10 pd ham christmas and had no problem with space. Like Sparky said 8 racks ribs and you can put a ton of chicken on them ( wings and legs )
VERY well built plus Big Poppa and co will take good care of you they are first class.

The Yoder looks like a nice smoker. Is the Blaze a Yoder? I did not think a 2nd shelf added that much more room. How much is a 1 star? Besides size what is the difference between the 1 star and 2 star? One thing that does concern me is the weight of the MAK. 145 pounds for that much metal is pretty light. I live where it gets -20.

On a One Star with two half racks you will have 760 sq in of cooking space.
Two Star has more sq in plus a warming box on the side.
At top of this page click on shop ...then click on 1 or 2 star general and you will see all the info on both grills.

I cook with my MAK in Minnesota year round without a problem. You may use a few more pellets but all of em will and it will still get the job done.

TTnudge, Where did you get your smoker? I wish I could use a Demo for a weekend to try it out. I am in Minnesota also

I have seen the blaze and liked the pellet cleanout but it is not made like a MAK or Yoder and the MAK is my choice

I got mine from Big Poppa. Bought it sight unseen based on the reviews of many people here and on other forums. Very glad I did. I don't know if your close to Waconia in the West Metro but if you are I'd be glad to figure out a time to have you over for a cook and a look.

Big Poppa, To be honest it is between the Yoder and the MAK 1 or 2. I have a limited budget but do not want to skimp if it is close to what I can spend. Can you send me a quote for a MAK 1 with the second shelf, cover and shipping?
