Whoo baby those were good!

Left for the range to hit some balls And on the way home I picked up a couple tri tips and some asparagus.

Dusted the tri tip with some double secret and gave the asparagus some garlic EVOO and desert gold...love that stuff!

Now that I know where I can get it I'll be eating it a lot more. It has to be one of the lower cost cuts you can get but one of the best tasting IMO.

Poor man's ribeye... It's so true, especially smoked on a grill. You feel like your eating $13.99/lb steak.

Great post Chili!

I made a trip to Taylorsville, NC (about an hour from my house) today to Mays Meats, a truly great little butcher shop. I was looking for two things. Fresh pork bellies and tri tips. Struck out on pork bellies. When I asked about tri tips, the butcher looked at me with a slight grin. I said, you know, "the boomerang looking cut of beef." He started laughing and said, “I know what they are and I have some. Let me go check to make sure.” He came back with a cryovac pack weighing about 20#. $3.49/pound. The only other call he has for them is a restaurant not to far away (I think it is owned by the Earnhardt (racecar) family). I bought them and repackaged them when I got home. Turns out there were five in the package. One is probably between 5.5 and 6 pounds. The other four are 3.5 to 4 pounds each. They all look good. NOW I can really see what all you Left Coasters are always talking about. I need to go back and re-read all the tri tip cooks to see how I want to cook my first one.

The secret to good Tri-Tip is simplicity, don't brine it, don't rub it, don't spritz it, don't mop it, just salt pepper & garlic, cook, rest, cut across the grain (very important), and as Sparky says " Buy Bigger Pants". Vons just had TT on sale for $2.97 and yes I stocked up. YUM
