Looking for Advice on my First Pellet Grill

Here we go again. Still trying to figure out what pellet smoker to get. I know someone with a Traeger and they love it. On the other hand I'm reading a lot of negative things about their quality because they're built in China. I'm now considering Louisiana Grills and Green Mountain. Price is certainly an issue too. I don't have a lot to spend. A Traeger Junior is about $500 Cdn. I can get a used Lil Tex for $450. A little tailgater Louisiana is about $650. I wonder if I can somehow put legs on it as it is about the same size as the Junior. Have no idea what pricing is like on the Green Mountain. Please help me make a wise choice. Cheaper the better but if there is a huge quality difference, may go up to $800. Help!

Just spoke to a dealer that sells both Traeger and Louisiana and he said he wouldn't spend more on the Louisiana, that they are just more expensive copies of the Traeger. Boy this is getting more and more confusing.

if you got $800 then save up $500 more. and get a mak 1 star. most of us here started w/ a traeger. and then we all upgraded to maks, memphis, yoder and so on. don't waste your money getting something you won't be using in a year from now. be patient and save some more money. then do it right. you'll be more happier. :) i started w/ a GM then traeger then memphis and now maks and Hazel. i'm a happy camper now. :)

Thanks for the info but I would never spend that kind of money on any Grill/BBQ. Just looking for advice on what's in my budget.

Did my research around places, and just bought a green mountain yesterday. I know macs are king, but too far out of budget just to get my feet wet. Sales man talked me out of treager for same reasons as everybody talks about problems with new models from china. Store had mephis. Louisiana, treagers, green Mt. and one other. GMG just seemed to be best bang, for $. Will let you know how she does, breakin was last night, and pulling off 3,2,1 ribs in t-minus 1 hr :) (starting off easy)

You will not be disappointed with your Green Mountain grill. I have both the Daniel Boone & the Jim Bowie. They are set and forget smokers. That being said the Mak grills are King of wood pellet smokers. Maks are not only set and forget, you can go to work, to a movie or a ballgame and come home knowing you are about to have some of the best BBQ ever. Also don't forget to check with Big Poppa for your pellets, rubs and sauces. (he can also hook you up with a Maverick ET-732) Welcome, happy smoking and don't forget the pictures.
