the directions were very good. i was a tad hesitant at first but i watched the video 3 times and just read the directions a couple times and went on from there.

1st off. need to fine the front of your drum. i put Ursula on a chair to make her easier to work on. more better for my back. start measuring stuff and marking it up. just follow the directions.

ok, drilling done. i had a paint question. so i called BPS and asked to speak to kevin. then send me to somebody w/ the name of kevin but he didn't know anything about smokers. so i called back. "can i talk to the drum making kevin?" bam, right threw to the right guy. kevin told me what kind of paint to get and away i go. only found black. i'm cool w/ it. i can always repaint here when i screw the black up.

Ok kids remember that you can still use pellets. I have always loved drum smoking...It is an amazing cooker. Seriously...there are a thousand versions and they all turn out great food...I just decided to let my engineers at the guitar factory have a stab at perfecting them...
The ability to raise and lower the fire basket is neat for reverse sear etc...

What color did you want to paint Ursula? Bet it had a certain pro football team theme to it.

Sparky it looks real good. I will tell you the drum dolly I have for mine is a nice add on. Having a kit makes it s much easier to make yourself a drum smoker. I burned ours in with a half load or Kingsford and three wood chunks. Temp aroung 225 and let it burn until it runs out of fuel. A couple hours in I put some food on to cook.

Yeah, I can see where you wouldn't need a tube smoker for normal cooks in a drum.

Would a tube pellet-smoker work OK in a drum if someone wanted to cold-smoke some cheese, bacon, etc.?

thanks for all the kind words. to be honest w/ ya. it was fun. my daughter helped me mark her out. i drilled (don't wear flip flops, metals shavings hot :( ) her out. my son started painting when he said i was doing it all wrong (hehe, every watch tom sawyer). used my daughters long arms to build the inside. i assembled and my son tighten all the nuts up. a family affair and alot of fun to build. i build a UDS. me. thats so cool. i'm cooking on it right now. :) :) :)

its nothing against the tube but the idea is that you put the amount of wood chunks or pellets directly onto the coals....yes you can use the tube to cold smoke in it....

If you add your pellets directly onto the coals won't they just burn up right away and not give a lot of smoke? But if you use the tube you will get a nice even smoke for much longer.... I have never cooked on a drum, so I am just asking.
