if you had a second chance would you buy the same smoker?

Well, I am not sure that I would make the same choice. I would DEFINITELY buy another pellet smoker in a heart beat, but I am not sure that I would buy the exact same product. Don't get me wrong, my cooker is very nice and I am plenty happy, but knowing what I know now... I might make a different choice. Two things I know for sure - I would definitely only buy from BP and would definitely buy an upscale American made cooker.

BTW - GREAT thread BP!

While I am still pretty new to pellets, I love my Traegers. They do everything I need. That being said though, two works better than one for me for cooking at different temps. For the style of cooking I do, if I had it to do again I would look at something with dual zone capabilities on one pellet grill.

Excellent thread.

That said..... I'm not sure. I love trying new things. I'm happy with my MAK at least 90% of the time. If I was going to buy another pellet grill it would be real hard to buy anything other than a MAK. And once winter rolls around I will love my MAK 100% since it's so easy.

But there are times I wish a section of my deck railing was removable so I could push it off. But I Get easily frustrated.

I'm very happy with my GMG Daniel Boone, and as I said before I was tightly limited by budget so these others were out of my reach. I don't regret the decision at all. Yeah years down the road once my cooking skills out-pace the abilities of this grill, I could see myself getting something fancier; heck the kids don't need to go to college, right? :p But I'm nowhere near that level of skill yet.

Kind of like photography; kinda pointless to by a $2000 camera if all you ever do is use it in auto mode. The camera - and the grill - is a tool to express your skills, not something that gives you skills simply by virtue of owning it. Having a forum like this is one of the best additional tools available! I (mostly) just listen/watch and try to absorb all I can.

BP, I'm extremely happy with the MAK 2-Star purchase. I got a great grill from a great manufacturer and a great dealer that give great support and sell great products. We make food that makes us so incredibly happy. We love this thing! I think we both wish we had more time to cook on it all day.

The only thing I question is my decision to order the full upper rack. Sometimes, I wish I went with the advice that some forum members gave when they advised getting the two half racks instead.

I've cooked on a lot of smokers, I love our MAK grill, IMO the best pellet grill on the market. I also like playing with fire, I really like our WSM too. For ease of use and a grill that the whole family (wife and kids) can not only use but put out great Q on. MAK all the way.

So glad I found this website and the good people here. I saved my money and bought a MAK 1 star from BP and I would do it again.

Without hesitation, I would buy the MAK 2 Star again and it would come from BP!

Did my 2nd butt Friday when a storm with 50 mph winds rolled thru towards the end of my smoke and Berta didn't flinch a bit... Impressive!

Honestly if I had to do all over again I wouldn't hesitate to buy a MAK 2 star again, it has been a great workhorse on my patio. With the addition of the Hasty Bake (another no regrets cooker) I love the versatility i have for cooking in the backyard.

I would look around as I always do. Which would be a waste of time because the only feature on the MAK I would do without is the pellet dump door. Another grill would need the rest , mainly the Pellet Boss.

I'm way to new to Memphis Pro to offer anything other than new toy euphoria. Interesting thread, as I just went through deciding between a Memphis Pro and Mak 2 star.

Currently Mak has about 15 to 1 showing in this thread. Is that due to the Mak out selling Memphis or are a higher percentage of Mak owners active on the forum?

The only reason I'm happy at all with my Traeger lil'Tex is because I didn't pay a penny for it, I won it in a burger contest. I have worked with a larger Traeger, a Texas i think, and it seemed a lot better in terms of running hot enough for a good sear. And I know someone who swears by the large trailer mounted commercial Traeger. But based on what I've learned here, if I were buying again for personal/family use, I'd be seriously looking at a Mak. The reality of my situation though, as someone who may be jumping to full time smoking as a profession, is that nothing that's common here is really big enough for my needs. Tomorrow I'm doing 4 briskets and 12 butts in my big vertical gasser for catering events this weekend.

Since the provider of this forum sells both brands I think your 15 to 1 pretty much tells the story. But you have to remember that one persons grill does'nt fit all. I think if you asked all the mak owners if that was thier only cooker you would hear a resounding no. If I wanted and could only have one grill on the porch I would probably buy the Memphis because of it's superior grilling. But I wanted a great smoker to compliment my weber performer grill. If I have to grill 10 ribeyes for a crowd I will not be firing up the Mak. Thats not it's confort zone. But there , in my opinion, is not a finer pellet smoker than the mak. We all have different wants and needs. Dont let it bother you. You have a wonderful grill/smoker that will do you well.
