Has anyone tried the Smoking Brothers pellets? They are 100% made of apple, hickory, oak, etc. How much smoke flavor did they impart? Did you blend them with other pellets?

OK here is the deal....Im not sure if these guys are just a label or they actually make pellets Ill try to find out...bu the 100%flavorwood usually doesnt work. Sounds great on paper but these different woods usually have too high an ash count when not blended....the only 100% i use is the oak pellet from bbqers delight.

Every few months a new 100% pellet comes along and they all share the same issues.

I use Bear Mountain 100% Alder for fish and its works great with very little ash in my MAK. I've also used a combo of 100% BBQer's Delight Apple pellets 1lb bags from Big Poppa's mixed with 100% Bear Mountain Alder and that also worked great. I think your mileage will very with different brands but I've been very happy with BBQer's Delights, Bear Mountain and Lumberjack (thanks Kite).

100% Alder or 100% oak work as they are the woods that are mixed with the "flavor woods". If you use 100% flavor wood you will run the risk of the issues BP talks about. Don't ask how I know!

you guys are coreect that 10% alder is fine too....I know that mak does not recommend lumberjack due to the high ash content but some here use them and like em!
