Thanksgiving Turkey - help

Long story short - I'm cooking a 13 lb Butterball for the inlaws and their family. There will be other turkeys, and naturally, it's imperative that mine be the best.

Was leaning on brining, then smoking - but am now planning on not brining and roasting.

Any special recipes on rubs, possibly marinades, or any other generic tips? I'm truly a blank slate, outside of the turkey - I'd love to hear suggestions and what's work best for ya'll in the past.

Best bird I ever did was last year on my MAK 1 Star. 12 pounder...overnight apple cider brine. Rubbed it up with a little canola oil so my wife's turkey rub would stick then cooked it in the MAK @ 325° until the breast temp hit 165...

Be aware that butterballs are usually processed birds. I smoked a butterball double breast a couple months ago and the texture of the cooked meat was that of processed deli sliced turkey.

No need to brine a butterball as it was salt injected when processed. I spatchcock turkey and do a rub under the skin with evoo and a rub on top of the skin alsowith evoo. Cook on mak @325 until breast hits 160.

YES!!! ALWAYS trust a man who drives one handed while texting! ;) LOL

Scooter & hawk are right on. You do NOT want to try brining a Butterball, they are already injected with brine! If you or anyone in your family have MSG sensitivities, then stay away from Butterball!

Appreciate all the tips. It looks like I'm stuck with my Butterball (learned my lesson for last year) and won't be brining it.

I take a little spicier route and go with jalapeño seasoned salt and desert gold. Great combo.

So, my turkey was a success! I had bought a Butterball, and did nothing, outside of putting a little bit of Rub on it.

We had 3 turkeys, mine was gone first, and I was blushing by the end of the night with all the compliments.
