Benefits/Harm of Doing a HIGH Burn

On my gas grill, at times I would run it on high for an hour or two to help burn off any junk that was on the grates/interior of firebox etc...

For the MAK, any benefit/harm of doing a similar type of burn for cleaning... (frog mats removed of course)...

Do you still have your gasser? I put my MAK grates, drip pan, etc. into my gasser with all burners on high for an hour or so to burn off any stuck-on crud. Works like a charm, doesn't use my pellets, and I don't have to worry about messing-up my MAK. I don't care how much debris comes off in the gasser - I only use it for "cleaning" now anyway! ;-)

I'm trying something new tonight. Have my grill grates in my self clean oven for a 3 hour clean. Fingers crossed!

I use our gassers like flavorguy. Put your grate drip pan etc .Cover with foil. Put some bricks or other heavy things to hold the foil down. Crank the grill on high and let it rip until no smoke is seen. Turn off and let cool for a hour before you lift the lid. The grate should have just dust on them. Just like when using a self cleaning oven.

I agree with the burn offs on the gassers but a great grill brush and a putty knife goes a long way. I also think that it is expensive to use pellets and will not be great for the powder coating in the long run...(see scooter i slipped it in)

I would not put grill grates in a self cleaning oven. My sister did that to an aluminum fry pan and she had a big aluminum pancake on the bottom of the oven the next day.
Oh, yeah, the pan was missing...

Did it yesterday and worked like a charm. Spoke to Bruce before i tried and he said no problem.

Since you started this, I just had to respond. Not one of my finer moments, however. I decided to not clean/burn-off the crud on my Grill Grates recently on the frill. However, I did put them into the oven and turn it on to “clean”. The first picture is the Grill Grates before they went into the oven.

The next picture involves a little “smoke” escaping from the locked oven door. I am happy to report that my smoke detectors are working just fine.

If I do this again, I will remove more of the crud before firing up the oven. I didn’t get an after photo, but trust me, the Grill Grates look better than when they started.
