Cleaning inside the MAK

I did a couple long cooks over the last 2 weeks and did not clean between them. When I took it apart I noticed there is grease build up and some food hardened on the bottom and where the grease flows down into the grease bucket. I am not sure how I should get this clean without damaging the grill. Please let me know how u guys do this. I am not happy that this happened!

That happened to me once and it was because I didnt put my grease sheild back in the proper way...Check that...Its no big deal!! Its going to get dirty ,or lets call it seasoned, no matter what you do..

I use a metal putty knife / scraper and go to work. If you have blockage
Where the grease flows into the bucket maybe use a butter knife and chip away at it but don't let the wife see you using that!

So is there any risk to damaging the coating on the bottom? That is my concern. I am worried about using something harsh on any part... what other tools do you guys use to clean? steel wool or metal brushes any where?

I think I'd contact the folks at MAK and use their recomendations. I'll bet that's not the first time something like that has happened. My old Traeger I just use a putty knife to scrape the bottom but it's paint is in sad shape. The greasyness keeps it from rustin though.

I have a plastic putty knife that I use to go over any powdercoated surfaces. Just a regular old putty knife to scrape the drip pan and bottom. Nothing in there is coated, so you can't hurt it.
