FYI: Brisket at $1.99/lb at Smart & Final

I was at Pleasanton, CA Smart & Final yesterday to pick up a brisket to smoke today. Price was $1.99/lb for USDA Select. There were 15 whole packers (10-14lb range) lying there and every one was a Choice.

When you're practicing getting brisket right, it helps to not be too financially tied to the end result....

Thanks for the heads up, swung by my local S&F on the way home today and you were right, sale price said select and the meat in the cooler was choice! Picked one up to try this week. Also scored some tri tip for $2.50/lb. that was choice as well.

Good deal! The one I purchased was one of the most limber toed briskets yet and the end result was fantastic. After trimming I seasoned it and put it into a big plastic ziploc (2gal) and the thing slumped into an S shape in the bag it was that limber! put it in the fridge so it would be ready to go when I got up at 10am. I needed it cooked and rested by 5PM, it was 10lbs so I cooked it hot & fast. Was done in 3.5 hours. Moist and tender.
