my first pellet grill was a green mountain. took it back after 5 days because the flame traveled back up the auger tube to the pellet hopper. a few other problems w/ mine also. i hear they are alot better now. have you looked at the mak 1 stars. alot of good features on them. just my 2 cents.
I've got one John. I have not had any problems but have had great results cooking. If you're not going to pick up a MAK as Sparky suggested, I would consider the GMG.
John, I have a new Daniel Boone model. I've only had it a few weeks now and I am also new to pellet smoking, or any kind of food smoking for that matter. So far it has worked flawlessly, the fit and finish are very good, very easy to setup and use. I started 2 10# pork shoulders (butt roasts) this morning at 2:00 and they are looking and smelling fantastic. 2 hours to go... For starting out the price is very good for GMG. I would recommend it, but remember my experience is limited.

I don't have any experience with GMG but I hear their controllers are better than Traeger.
I plan on getting a Mak 1 Star in the very near future. For me it is the pellet boss that seals the deal along with the grill holding temps + -5 degrees. It will be a huge improvement from what I am working with right now.
