I have a Brinkman side by side, dual function, barrel type grill, i.e. Gas on 1 side and charcoal on the other. I don't have a smoker box so I just do the half and half thing on the charcoal side for smoking. It is wide enough that I can even cold smoke with some heat barrier modifications. I have my own pellet smoking rig that I made with a "beer can cooker", some wire mesh to hold the coals, and an empty soup can for the pellets. I get about 20 minutes of smoke per "load", which works fine for me because I don't mind sitting out and tending the process as long as I have a nice cold one in hand.
