Hello my name is Scott and I'm about to become a pellet smoker

I've got a Weber Genesis gas grill that comes in handy. I've got a Weber Kettle that turns out fine brisket and ribs. But I don't have the time to watch it for 8 hours. So I'm excited that my wife gave me a hall pass to get a pellet.
But now I'm down to the Mak 1 Star and the GM Daniel Boone.

The Mak is $500 bucks more and in some areas the DB has heavier steel

Help me pellet lovers, you're my only hope!

I just faced this exact same decision. I can't argue about which is the better grill, there's a lot of MAK love on this forum. :D But for financial reasons, I just couldn't manage the MAK and ended up buying a Daniel Boone. So far I'm extremely pleased with it; while I've only had it for a week, I've done several cooks, and it has performed well - the grill is still at a higher level than my cooking skills. :p It warms up fast, holds temperature very steady, and seems well designed and solid to me. Yeah, it doesn't have the fancy programmability of the MAK's pellet boss, and it only has one temperature probe. But if that's sufficient for you, it's a great grill for the money, IMHO.

Welcome to the forum Scott. When buying a Grill/Smoker always think about where your cooking skills will be in a year or two, than buy a Grill/Smoker that fits your needs now and can be up graded for future use. I believe MAK fills this need and you can't find a better company to work with. Also it's made in the USA by people like you and me. Good luck and good smoking.

I own a MAK and do not regret buying it. I have not wanted more or out grown it. I own serial number 68. A lot has change since then and I have been able to upgrade to any feature I want . I would spend the extra cash if it is I the budget.
