Its a balmy 0 degrees here in Illinois. I have a great brisket rubbed and ready to go. But my MAK won't cooperate. I keep getting a flameout error I think. I say I think because its so cold that the display doesn't refresh properly! Any thoughts?

Alecksjaycubs--- We are in the office until 12:00 PST today and would like to talk more about the issue you are having. I think it could potentially be your igniter/heating rod and would like to troubleshoot with over the phone. Can you give me a call @ 503-623-1234 or email me at [email protected] so that I can help get you up and cooking for the holidays. Thanks! :)

The LCD display will not work at 0 degrees. If you can get the grill warmed up a little then light it the heat from the grill should get the display going again.

I have been cooking on my mak and its has been dang close to zero , definitely single digits and I haven't had any issue. but I do keep my Mak in the garage and just wheel it to the door when cooking, maybe this has helped me . I just cant bring myself to let my 2 star sit outside lol

LOL, its happy where your happy :)

We have some Alaska owners who do the same thing. They store in the garage then move out to cook, once the grill is cooking along the warmth from the grill keeps the display going even in the negative outside temps.

First thing I do before an important cook is to make sure the firepot (and firebox) was clean and start with about a 1/4 cup of pellets in the firepot. Personally, I'd start it with a torch just to save time but the ignitor should work also just takes a bit longer.
