Please help I'm new to this wonderful world of pellet grills/smoker and I've been looking to buy one. This the problem only one when I've narrowed it down to two they are Yoder ys640 and Rec Tec any and all input is more than welcome.

Both are fine cookers.

The Rec-Tec is probably the best imported cooker, but don't be fooled by their 680 sq. in. of advertised cook surface area! It's a little deceptive.

The MAK 1 Star, for example, with a smaller foot print (380 sq. in.) will hold more food than the Rec Tec. It holds 8 pork butts whereas the Rec Tec will hold 6. How is this possible?

Many people overlook two key factors in the cook chamber design; Shape & Space (in cubic inches):

1) Shape: Yoder & the MAK have straight walls on the bottom half vs. the barrel shaped Rec Tec. You can't fit taller foods against the back & front of a barrel shaped chamber, so you loose some of that advertised surface area.

2) Space - Does it allow an upper cooking rack: Rec Tec offers NO upper rack... because there's not enough head room!

Just something to think about.
