Hi, I'm Jim and I'm new to smoking and have questions.

Can you use pellets to smoke in an electric Smoker? I just purchased a Masterbuilt 30" electric smoker and would like to use Hickory pellets to smoke with. Is it possible that they would ignite or explode in the smoker next to the electric element. I know that my Oak pellet heating stove ignites pretty forcefully sometimes, but it's designed strong enough to withstand it. Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi Jim and welcome to the forum. If you'll make a foil pouch full of pellets, poke a few holes in it, put the pouch in your Masterbuilt and you'll have the smoke you're looking for. If you just throw pellets in they will catch fire. I think Tent is the pouch master here maybe he can help out.

I guess it is possible to put them in a small smoker box like you wood chips and set it on the heating element. Should work fine.

Agreed, it should work fine. Pellets won't explode.
