If I count today and the time I spent on here researching what pellet grill to get I am at 3 months. Why didn't I start sooner, but can't wait for the food that is to come.

Did some smoking in vain with a cheapo MECO water bullet smoker 20 years ago but got frustrated with it because it was difficult to control and got rid of it. Wondered in the wilderness of propane grills for about 15 years until I happened upon a table at Ace Hardware with Traeger brochures on it. Grabbed one and put it in my truck. About a month later I read it and the digital controlled wood fire made instant sense to me.
Bought a Lil Tex Aug09, sold it in Dec09 and upgraded to my 2 Star and have been happily filling the East Bay air with lovely hardwood smoke ever since.

Bought my first Traeger over 15 years ago. It was the commercial model. Then a trailer model 200 a year later. It was like go big or go home. I still use the trailer. My wife calls them my toys.

In '98 or '99 I started smoking our own sausage in a refurbished refrigerator because my wife told me it was silly that we make our own sausage but were hauling it all in to a butcher shop to have them smoke it for us... shortly after that I figured we got this smoker we might as well use it for other things and started to brine and smoke turkeys. So over almost 15 years it has been a slow learning passion/obsession; wish I would have started smoking when I started to make my own sausage in '87. Took me 10 plus years and a wife to tell me to get after it!

A friend of mine got me started using an electric smoker in 09 and I've been hooked ever since. I love my electric smoker and still use it some but mainly now its for jerky and snack sticks. I haven't cooked ribs or butts in it since I got my MAK.

Let's see... I started playing around with grilling & BBQ'ing while living in N.C. about 25 years ago when I learned how to do Carolina Style Pulled Pork. But I started getting serious about smoking & BBQ'ing around 12 years ago when my co-worker brought in some smoked meats he'd done on his Weber smoker. That next week I got a pork shoulder, pulled out the Weber Kettle and smoked up some pulled pork and was immediately hooked!

BBQ'ing/Smoking has not only stuck, but has grown into a real passion.

hmmmm..... I'm not really sure. I was raised with outdoor cooking, smoking hams and bacon, campfires, trench and underground pits.
I suppose I started when my folks thought it would be safe for me to strike a match. :)

2003 Started using a WSM. Switch to pellet cooking and have MAK #68 and 186. Still have one WSM that still gets used from time to time. A Pellet Smoker is just so much easier to use.

Around 2004 (?) I smoked some pork butt ala Alton Brown (flower pot smoker). I was hooded. Problem was I could only do one but at a time, no ribs and it was difficult to figure out what was going on.

About 2008 I started smoking ribs on my Weber gas grill then a Smokenator on a Weber kettle. I used various configurations for generating smoke. Came across pellets in foil which got me investigating. bought a Mak 2 Star in January 2011.

Mid 80's wife bought me a charcoal brinkman smoker for Christmas. It was cold & snowing so I thought I'd fire this puppy up in my storage shed..... hmmmmm it never accrued to me that my storage shed and everything in it would get THAT smokey !

The crazy thing about when I smoke is I always think and hum the tune by Lynyrd Sknyrd " That Smell " I'm not into the drug thing , but I do believe that smoking on my MAK is additive :)

Started w/an electric smoker w/digital temp and timer. It cooks great food, however, not a lot of smoke flavor. This was about a year ago. Found you guys and BP site and since last july i've cooked on my MAK every weekend (sometimes during the week) on it. Love everything about BBQ!! My wife and family loves it too. Every Sat. its an all day event at our house. Sometimes my wife says "why do you cook all day long after a long work week? Aren't you tired from the week to work all day on the food?" I smile and tell her BBQ is not "work" for me. Its the only type of food I cook thats 100% completely enjoyable for me.

I have smoked on a WSM, Bradley, Weber kettle, and Horizon Marshall. But it was always a project. Since a Traeger Lil' Tex Elite came into my life, I smoke several times a week. Even bake on it.
