Howo much better cook are you now?

This may sound kind of cocky but, I don't think it has made me a better cook but has given me the opportunity to unlock my potential. I've tried using stick burner smokers but the challenge was temp management. With the pellet grill I can set the temp and walk away without having to check on it every 5 minutes... Of course my recent discovery of the Maverick has helped me with keeping an eye on things.

I will second that... I made some good food on my big green egg but fire management just added another layer of frustration to the cook. With my MAK I can focus on the food and spend more time with my guest. I ended up selling my BGE but I do miss the charcoal flavor so I bought a drum kit from BP... Haven't built it yet but working on it!

BP, thank you for this forum which has brought all these great cooks together to share their passions. That's what has made me a better cook.

It has made me better. One reason is someone else I know when eating his creations MAKes me feel the need to step up my game.

I know that pelleting cooking has improved my game. I never got much pleasure out of pit management, it always was a frustration point for me. Also I am not into heavy smoke flavor so I do not really miss that part of it. I learned a lot on the Traeger but the MAK really helped me step up my game. I now enjoy cooking for others and when I retire full time next month, I will be doing much more than I do now. I am also inspired by friends that do competition cooking. Thanks to all that have contributed to my BBQ pleasure.

Getting a pellet grill has very much improved both my wife and my cooking skills. Between this forum, the contests and the pellet grill it has made us realize we are capable of cooking so much more than were before getting a pellet grill. This has also unleashed what I am cooking on other grills besides the pellet grill. Much thanks to all the members here!

Don't know if it has made me any better but defiantly has broaden my horizon. Stuff made in the inside was always pretty good if I can toot my own horn a bit but my BBQ/grilling was not that good. Now with the Mak I think my BBQ is good, or good enough for my fam. Love Love LOVE the Mak.

Well after this weekend I'd say quite a bit better. I've tried several things on my smoker. Some I've done before and others I've never tried. And the food I can compare is far better than before. Or at least different. Love pellet smoking. Would like to try a comp some day when I get good enough. Thanks for all your help to you all.

Are you kidding? It's made me a worse cook.

Now, instead of fussing over ingredients and oven temperatures, I buy a hunk of meat, sprinkle some MONEY, etc, a little sauce, maybe half way through throw some yummy sauce on there, little foil love, trust my thermometer and YAY! Fabulous food.

No fuss, no worries, very little attention paid. My food is the talk of the neighborhood. I'm a horrible cook.

ps: Big Poppa taught me everything I know

Learning to cook on a stick burner definitely made me a better pitmaster. It allowed me to fully understand how temperature affects the cook.

The advantage with pellets is it allows me to spend more time concentrating on the food and less on the pit.

Ditto on that! It's like an oven, you set the temp and don't think to worry about if its running at the right temp (which you should by the way). I'm no expert, but I've fussed with enough electric and charcoal/wood smokers that I finally got fed up. Bad weather is no longer a deterrent either.

As to being a better cook I'm not so sure I am any better, but my food is. I maybe a little heavier than pre-MAK me, but they are all happy pounds!

Im a decent cook, pellet smoking has expanded my horizon, and this amazing forum challenges and inspires me to try new things. I have also tried to find ways to cook my "usual" specialties on the grill.

I pay much more attention & $$$ to the cuts of meat and seasonings. Love to cook even more now than before.
