Hey guys I was thinking about getting one of these.Any suggestions as to which brand is the best?

Take a look at the maker of the thermapen. They make good stuff.

Infrared I use the one made by the people that make the thermal pen. Some models have the ability to use a k probe too

Infrared is only going to do surface temp.

Jake I went this route and it is now with the bowling ball in the closet...The problem is that you get a grate temp with the lid open.

I asked for this last Christmas. I like it and use it from time to time mostly at night. It has a backlit display so I can read it at night and it allows me to take temps of something in the back of the MAK without me having to get my face further into the smoke. It's near as fast as my thermapen and just as accurate in the boiling water test.

I got one for checking temp on pizza oven. pretty cool. You can shoot the temp on just about anything! Including brakes if you're into racing!

When your brakes are sticking you can use the IR point and shoot to figure out which one is the (really) hot one.
