Curious if the 2 Star uses the pit probe temp at all when you set your grill to HIGH or if it is a preset program? Anyone seen higher temps using HIGH vs 450* or visa versa?
Not sure on the probe question, but yes, I see a difference on high setting. I set my PB on 450 just last night and it stayed around 445-450 for quite awhile. After my cook I changed PB to High to burn off, went inside for about 10 minutes, returned and the PB showed 485. I shut it down then.
The first time I tried High with BBQD Oak, it got to 500 on the PB.
The High setting runs the auger continuously and only monitors the TC temp if you hit 500 (then it will turn on/off not to exceed 500).
Most of the older powder grills never saw 500 but the stainless ones do. Cooking on high with the new 2012 system can easily catch fatty foods (steak) on fire so be careful when using that setting.
Thanks MAK DADDY! Another reason for me to upgrade! I'd consider tricking the probe so it keeps cranking but I like my powder coat too much to do that. Want a hot and fast wood burning pizza oven.
