Mak 2 Star #1642 build question.. missing grease pan?

Hi everyone! I've just graduated from a traeger lil tex elite to this unit. As I'm assembling it, I can't find any part that resembles the "Blank Grease Pan" (pg 10, 13) or "Blank Insert Pan" (pg 13). I also don't see it in the parts list (pg 3-5). Am I missing something? Right now my path forward for smoking seems to be to wrap the FlameZone pan in foil so the grease will flow properly. Any advice welcome!!

Thanks!

I'm new here and I might be wrong. Just trying to get you an answer tonight. But, I think the 2 star now comes standard with the split flame zone. You should have a flame zone grate that has holes in it as well as 2 half-covers that cover all of the holes when used together. So, I think you should be looking through all the nooks and crannies for those 2 covers. I just assembled mine the other day but I can't quite remember where those covers were hidden.

Ah thanks! The two covers do just cover all the holes in the flame zone grate. Interesting that it only fits vertically; it would seem that if it's horizontal it would make an additional channel down the middle for grease to flow. Thanks for the advice! Testing out a standing rib roast now. :)

I believe the flame zone covers are designed to go on the way they do so you can remove one and have indirect and direct heating sides. Seems that it would be difficult to get an indirect zone if the grates went on the other way. Congrats on the 2-star!

Thanks, TentHunter! The webpage says that the part is for S/N 790 and below; mine's 1642. Would that preclude me from using it? I am primarily a smoker.

cowdog ah that makes a lot of sense! It would indeed be hard to offer partial direct heat if the covers fit left-to-right.

If you find that you do mainly low & slow cooking, MAK does offer a blank drip pan for the 2 Star. I have both for my 1 Star and like that I can swap them out in about 30 seconds.

The best people to answer that are either MAK or Big Poppa Smokers. Give Kristen at BPS a call Tuesday morning and she can get you the right answer! :)

You want the Quick Change Blank Grease Pan.
Sku: 2-G BLANK GREASE PAN (QC)

We will update the manual to make it more clear that the blank pan is optional.
Thanks,
