Mak 2 star question

Hi all,
I've been enjoying my new 2 Star all week, but I have a couple of questions on operating procedures.
When starting the grill do you leave the hood open or closed?( Traeger specified open on start.)
same question on cool down ,open or closed?
Also does everyone oil the searing grate ?It seems like oil just made a sticky mess of the grate.

Thanks
Frank

If I'm preheating the grill then the lid is closed from the start. Sometimes I add food while the grill is starting, especially if I am going low & slow, but the lid is always closed as soon as the food is on and probe positioned.

I have gotten an error message from leaving the lid open too long after starting. I believe this was from the temp sensor not detecting enough of a rise in temp (from the lid being open) so it gave me a flame-out error.

For cool-down, I leave the lid closed.

I have not oiled my searing grate. I don't think I ever needed to.

Hey Frank! Tenthunter is right, the lid should always be closed unless you're actively putting food on the grill, flipping steaks, etc.

You might check out our FAQ page, it goes over a lot of the basic operations, tips/tricks, etc. MAK FAQs | MAK Grill
