Wow! This is going to be sooooo much easier for those that are not familiar with home networking, DHCP vs static IP addressing and configuring their own routers to allow port 80 traffic from a public network into their home private networks and then routed to their MAK!
Instead of all that, log into makgrillsmobile.com, create a userid, register your General by turning it on, it automagically goes out onto the internet and connects up to a server at MAK Grills and allows us to access our General right from makgrillsmobile.com??? No special static IP addressing on our private DHCP networks needed? Just power up the General and connect to it through the MAK website? Genius!!!
We should also be able to keep our IOS updated using this connection?

SS, it's about controlling a MAK grill wirelessly using a smart device, laptop, desktop etc. Anything that can connect to the WWW will be able to control a MAK grill that has had a MAK WiFi module installed onto the circuit board of the PelletBoss.
People have been using the word "app" in this thread and I think it's important to point something out at this point in time that may not be obvious to everyone. In todays iPhone, iPad, Droid parlance, the word "app" is short for, and means, an application (or program) that is loaded onto the smart device and used for a specific purpose, to control, update, access something. In this instance regarding the MAK grill, the "app" MAK DADDY is referring to will NOT be loaded to and run from your smart device. It's an application that will run on "www.makgrillsmobile.com" website not on your smart device. Your smart device need only have a browser installed (they all do) from where you will navigate to the website URL of "makgrillsmobile.com". From there you'll sign in using a userid/password combination you will need to set on your first visit to the website. From the website you'll register your Grill ID and be able to control your grill through the makgrillsmobile.com website. More correctly stated, you'll be registering your MAK's WiFi module/PelletBoss to your username on the makgrillsonline.com website in order to control your PB in the same way as if you were standing in front of your grill. In actuality you can be standing anywhere in the world there's a cell signal and a smartphone or where there's a laptop or PC with an internet connection and control your grill.
The MAK WiFi module will have some unique identifiers hardcoded into it: 1) a Grill ID or serial number.
1) The unique Grill ID or serial number is to identify your individual Wifi Module/PelletBoss on the MAK web server.
2) The unique Grill ID prevents someone else from accidentally registering your WiFi module as their own, or, intentionally registering it in order to mess with your head and your cooks.
I believe this is close to how it will work (MD, please correct me if I'm wrong): Done
1) Install the module onto the PB.
2) Turn on the grill.
3) Enter your wireless router SSID and security password or pass phrase into the Pellet Boss(Instructions should be included).
4) The module will connect with your wireless router.
6) Having an assigned Grill ID (IP address) the WiFi module will then navigate out to the internet and connect itself to a MAK web server somewhere in Oregon.
7) Using the browser on your smart device, laptop or PC, you connect to makgrillsmobile.com.
8) Create your personal userid and password on makgrillsmobile.com
9) Register your WiFi module/PelletBoss to your userid using your unique Grill ID WiFi module serial number.
10) The MAK mobile website will connect you to your WiFi Module.
11) Using the web application on the MAK website, you can now control your PB from anywhere in the world
12) Start cooking!
I'm guessing at a lot of the above but I think I'm fairly close. If I'm close to being correct with the above, this is an amazing process and another huge innovation for MAK. The above removes the need for a MAK Grill owner to have to possess the networking knowledge to be their own Network Admin in order to connect their smart device or PC through the public internet then through their router into a privately addressed MAK grill along with all the security, addressing and DNS issues that type of access presents. TBD LOL.
It brings WiFi connecting a MAK grill within easy reach of most, if not all, pitmasters! I agree!

Sweet. Thanks again, MD, for your relentless pursuit to better your product. Some manufacturers create a good product, and ride that wave until it is out of date. Seems that your products will never be out of date with all of the research you put into keeping MAK the best and most up to date on the market. This only benefits your customers, and I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say that effort is greatly appreciated.
