MAK2 Probe Wire Hole Mod?

Well, first cook on my new MAK2 and I found a mod...at least for me...
the little mouse hole that the probe wire goes thru to enter the cook chamber, has a little "tab", that if cut off, will allow me to slide the probe wire in and out of the mouse hole without having to remove the probe from the meat. Anyone do this? Will it have any ill effects on anything if I do it?

MAK 27 didn't have a tab nor does 829. I'm thinking that maybe when they cut the hole in, the tab you are referring to may have failed to come off completely.

He is talking about cutting through the wall of the back to open up the mouse hole into a slot I believe.

The reason for the design is to not allow the wires to slide out and get pinched by the lid when you close it. It could weaken the wall as well causing the metal to distort from the heat and interfere with the lid that is close tolerance to it.

Obviously we don't recommend modifying the grill in any way and it will void your warranty.

Def won't be voiding my warranty! Anyhow, I found another way to feed the wire. On the side of the door, there's enough gap that the wire can sit in and not be pinched at all.

I use the mouse hole all the time to slide the wire to the probes in and out without removing the probe from the meat. Last weekend I had 3 probes in the MAK2 and moved the wires in and out through the mouse hole several times. Not sure what the issue is.
