Mangalitsa pork

I've spent the past few days trying to locate a retailer of Mangalitsa Pork. Although, I've never had it, I want to give it a try.

GOOGLE SEARCH - Mangalitsa Pork

When discussing this with a wholesaler, he told me that just recently he has had probably 5 different inquiries from BBQ competition cooks wanting to purchase.

Yesterday, I located a nearby retail location that will have it available on a limited basis.
Hopefully I will be trying some soon and will give a report of it after MAKing some.

Has anyone out there ever tried this meat? (Don't everyone reply at once)
Am I wasting my money?

The Mangalitsa produces too little lean meat so it has been gradually replaced by modern domestic breeds.

Sounds like my kind of pig! Decended from wild boar.

I did use the search function, but didn't come up with your thread.
Need additional clue (key search word) to locate it.
Thanks for everything.

Thankx CarterQ,
MANGALITSA/MANGALISTA (?) still confused about the spelling - WHATEVER

Enjoyed BP's post.
Keep in mind that I am in no way a gormet cook like these folks.
I'm down & dirty, in my back yard - a KISS kind of guy.

I want to see if I can bring home a fresh pork shoulder -bone in - and do it just like I do my Sam's Club meat.
Inject it, pack it with rub, MAK at 225 or so 'til it's hitting 195f (probably foiling near the end) Some homeade sauces and plop some on a cheap white bun.

Don't know what my cost will be, but you only live once.
I'll take photos of course, if I can pull this off.

Go for it! My buddy did a Kurobuta shoulder once. WOW. Imagine pulled pork with clarified butter mixed in.. It was fantastic.

OK, Here the deal.
Made contact with the retailer, who advised that the following items were available from the wholesaler.
-At this time there were not any "BostonButt" shoulder cuts available.
-There were spare rib sections available. 4 pieces, each 3-5 lbs @ $14.95 lb.
-There were some picnic cuts, w/trotter, (hoof on) 14-18 lbs @ 11.00 lb.

For some, price is never a consideration.
Ouch!
Have not ordered as yet. Will enjoy your comments.
