OK Holbrook is a town that has and is facing challenges....it is a very small town that once was off route 66 and probably thrived....lots of closed storefronts...I'm sure more than their share of issues today. There is a couple that has worked very hard to have a wild west festival and BBQ contest here. We cooked the first year last year (RGC) and got a 4th this year (first in brisket)
After comp and inbetween judging is where you shoot the bull and sort of decompress.
This handsome young couple wanders by and starts talking to Brad and Jody...Im in the Airstream and decide to talk to them a little. I start by saying, "You aren't from around here?" They were on their way cross country from Charleston South Carolina and had decided to check out BBQ along the way....there was a radio commercial for the contest and they showed up.
I told them that they could be Mr and Mrs Holbrook if they moved here. I then said "I think I'll make you MR and Mrs Holbrook." Up to that point there was no contest to decide a mr and mr h...just a crazy idea.
Emily the promoter happened to come over and i asked what the charity that they were supporting and she said the main one was for organ donation (having donated my kidney to my youngest son...this was meant to be) I said how much would I have to donate for you to make this couple Mr and Mrs Holbrook? We came to a figure and then I made demands....Crown and tiare

This was just a crazy idea dn I thank them for their sense of humor and Emily and all the organizers for making a unique cross country memory for this fun and happy couple
