Murphy's Law of BBQ

OK had to start this thread because it always seems Murphy's law is in full effect when the Q is running! What are some of Murphys law that you observe when BBQing or competing?

One for me- No matter how calm it is outside, when I break out the foil the wind picks up! Not just a gentle breeze either, full on wind the minute I'm grabbing a huge hunk o meat to wrap!

How about you?

1) The expected ETA for dinner will be moved up mid cook.
2) "We can eat whenever" is not cast in stone...and usually changes in adverse ratio to the complexity of the cook.

Same wind/foil cliché here too, but the one that really gets me is when we're having company. That's when something always seems to happen to delay the cook so we end up running late.

Today was the first day EVER that I was able to lay out the foil and put things on it without it blowing away. I even commented to the wife about it not five minutes ago, just before I saw this post. But the wind is picking up now, I'm sure it was a once in a life time event.

Murphy Law #1
When you cook for yourself, it's the best product you ever cooked.
When you cook for guest, It's never quite that good
( It's still probably the best Q most people have ever had, but we all know that sometimes we just nail it and sometimes we might miss it a little bit )

When you fire up the pellet grill and walk away (and the Mrs is in a hurry for supper) you will have a

"Failure to ignite"

When you are prepared for a small dinner party and everything is smoking along, then they come early with extra guests. This is why I like to cook a lot of "extra" meat. It all seems to be gone at the end of the night.

Everything is on the MAK and it is program cooking. So out we go to run some errands. Upon our return we discover the power hit and the cooker has defaulted back to smoke. Not really a problem except that company is coming and dinner is now going to be late.

you have company over and you have some great pork...and there are three vegans...you have great bread and there are three pains in the butt "gluten intolerant" "It's Ok the salad looks great"

I hate it when the wife makes a comment like "see bill, Sterling can cook...why cant you?" The guy instantly hates me because its easier than hating his wife. IO now get to say..."bill can do this too...."

When you put two nice cuts of meat onto the smoker, plug in your probes and one of them reads "HIGH" and "Check Probe 1".

Murphy's Law of BBQ *bump*

Personally I have one that I use all the time. Murphy's Law of BBQ: If it is nice out, it isn't BBQ. (my Lang hates the nice weather, but when it is cold, raining, or otherwise bad weather... she runs like a champ)

one more then I recently have been thinking about: If you don't think you'll need it, changes are, you will. (also those last minute supplies to grab on the way to a comp :D

Forget to check the pellet hopper and it runs dry. Doh! Please tell me I'm not the only bonehead to do this.
