I just picked up my first machine, a Traegar Texas Grill at the big warehouse store. I know there are far superior machines that are manufactured locally and to a much higher standard, but WOW that was a great deal! I dare you to find a better bang for your buck. any who, I just fired up the unit and was ready to do a quick scrub of the grill surface when a feeling of impending doom consumed me......how carefull do I need to be with Traegar's coated grill surface? I don't want to scrub thru the coating and start having issues. My experience with my charcoal grill was that as long as it was well seasoned I had no problems, but I don't think I was dealing with a coated grill surface, just a steel one. Why aren't they all stainless steel for goodness sake. Any advice would help

Glad you joined us Powder, welcome!
I have no experience with Traeger but I am sure someone with Traeger experience will be along soon.

Welcome aboard Powder. I think you answered your own question about the stainless steel - "I know there are far superior machines that are manufactured locally and to a much higher standard, but WOW that was a great deal!". Like they always say - you get what you pay for. Not to worry though - there are a lot of happy Traeger owners on here.

Welcome aboard! I am fewer than 1 week into the addiction but have already had several cooks. Yesterday, I got home from the OR coast and "whipped up" some pork ribs and beef shorties on the Mak.

Don't clean it until after you've made it dirty. Cook, eat, repeat.

Welcome to the forum Powder. Don't over think your new toy just have fun and cook some food. There is no need to scrub a new Grill/Smoker. Fire it up to high and let it burn for 30min and you should be good to go. Good luck and good smoking.
